We spent only 48 Hours in Ukraine.
We arrived in Kiev as the snow fell and the sun was disappearing. We were a group of four that has travelled to Ukraine to reunite and share stories from a 10,000-mile road trip, the same road trip we had done a few years earlier that took us through this fascinating country.
This trip to Ukraine was somewhat different. Rather than the rolling countryside of sunflowers and sunshine, with 48 hours to explore, we decided to make our way to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Zone of Alienation, the site of the worst nuclear disaster in history. What followed was an incredible, terrifying and sobering experience.
The site was once home to 130,000 people, all of whom were evacuated in 1986 at short notice and took only what they could carry. Entering the area is the closest thing to time travel. Time has stood still for over 30 years and has created the most incredible museum on the planet.
